California-based five-piece the Young Veins is gearing up for the release of itss debut full-length, Take A Vacation!, which will be out officially June 8 via One Haven Music. But if you can't wait that long to get a taste of its dreamy beach-pop, the album's lead single, "Change," is now available for download on the band's website.
The Young Veins is a songwriting project born from Ryan Ross and Jon Walker, formally of Panic! At The Disco, when the duo realized their sonic aesthetics were growing outside the bounds of their original band. Now the guys work as a songwriting team. "Sometimes Jon will have an idea started and he'll bring it to me and we'll finish it together or vice versa," frontman Ryan Ross tells CMJ of their writing process. "Other times we'll both pick up the guitar and start from nothing and write it all together. Usually when we do it this way it either comes together quickly or not at all. But in my opinion, when we are able to do it like that those are the best [songs]."
Take a Vacation! was recorded in Castle Oak Studios and Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. The album was made with producers Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet) and Rob Mathes (Panic!, Carly Simon, Loud Reed) and featuring guest spots from Chief , Alex Greenwald, the Like and Rilo Kiley's Jason Boesel.
On the release date of Take A Vacation!, the Young Veins will play a special show at Los Angeles' famous records store Origami Vinyl before heading out to Tennessee for a set at Bonnaroo. From there, the band will kick off its official North American tour with fellow Californians Rooney. The tour kicks off June 16 in San Diego and runs through late July.
With a new record and a pleasantly full tour schedule ahead of him, Ross is looking forward to a busy summer. "[We are] excited that the record will finally be out and hopefully more people will be able to sing along at the shows,” he says. “And [we are] looking forward to meeting new faces and playing some rock 'n' roll."
